Why Western Union fees are so expensive?

I'm very curious about why Western Union fees compared with other services like MoneyGram and Xoom are so expensive. Do they offer something else that other services don't? More Quickly transfers, more payment options, more world wide agents?

Western Union is offered in more countries than any other service. In fact, I don't know of a country where Western Union is not offered. You have to consider they have been around for over a century. They were famous for their telegraphs which at one point was the primary source of sending important notices over long distances. So they in turn built around that a very strong payment network. Additionally fraud for Western Union is so high so they have to offset that with the fees.

Their fees is high because their service is instant which means that when a seller send money, the receiver can get it within seconds which is not the case in other means of transfers.

Most people aren't aware that other money transfer services even exist so they don't question the ridiculously high fees. Western Union as a brand has really dominated the market for a long time.

I think their fees is high because they are providing the best services with a best network moreover Western Union has become a brand name and has really dominated the market.
