I have a desire to study about the algorithms used in search engines and to develop my own search engine. Is this possible? I have searched for a lot of materials but i do not get any stuff that is worth it. So please help me if you find any interesting links or materials.

Practice, practice, practice. Nothing more exciting than seeing a website you worked on for weeks get a #1 placement on various search engines. Keep up the practice and don't stop because you didn't get the placement you want. One key, track, track, track, you will be shocked what you see on the referrals from search engines, in terms of what they rank you highly over not. Also, DO NOT cheat, you will always get caught, may work for a little while but never worth it in the long run.
