It almost seems ridiculous to post this, but you should definitely buy a cheap $20 shredder from Office Depot to avoid identity theft. Criminals often scour your trash to get credit card and bank statements, and a shredder is a cheap way to eliminate that problem.

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking at purchasing a usb shredder. It's kind of small though but I don't have much paper work that needs shredding.
