One type of spamming is getting your email address from anywhere you make your address public. The spammers have a way of getting emails from the sites. Normally Usenet articles and IRC's are affected by these kinds of spams. So a tip of avoiding this is to refrain from posting to USENET and if you can't help it, just use a false return back email. Do not put your email address on a web page that has mail-to links. Use false username when connecting to IRC. Hope this helps.

Don't give you e-mail address to sites that you are not sure is authentic. Or better yet, don't give out any information about yourself to people and sites that you don't know.
