Default Phishing Protection in IE7

What do you think of the Phishing protection in IE7? As someone who is already aware of the risks of phishing, and who was already taking basic precautions, I find the phishing protection really really irritating and patronising.

That said, I have less technically literate family members who have been stopped from giving over details to sites because of the warnings that pop up, so I guess its a good thing for some people.

I am in the same boat as you are. It really helped out people I know that may not have as much computer experience as I do. I think that i what IE7 was going for. There are millions of people that don't know a lot about cmoputers and that is who they are targeting.

I'm using Firefox which also has integrated phishing protection and it never warned me about everything. But that's not bad, in fact, I think the reason for that is that I never opened a phishing site.

In my opinion it isn't very hard to avoid phishing when you apply a little common sense.

@etali

If you are so pissed off with the phishing protection you may also turn it off...
But have you really seen it properly?? You can also report a particular website !!
So if you are so exprerienced... I don't think it is bad at all to help starters and prevent them from the "Demon of Spam" !!

If you're pissed off with IE7, you can just check the sites manually. Or another good option for phishing protection is SPOOFSTICK. It's a simple browser extension that helps users detect spoofed websites.

I haven't tried using IE7 yet but I've heard some good and bad points about it. I think that the phishing protection is a good resource as it can protect others that are less experience from phishers. I think firefox with the right add ons downloaded on it is still better compared to IE7... That is just my personal stand though.

You and me both. I also think firefox still offers a better protection when it comes to internet browsers. I also find it very light on my computer's resources compared to IE7.
