Exclamation PayPal Scam worth 2500$

Hey
I found this thing on DP...thought shud share with people on CBF (ChargeBackForum) too

Quote:

This is a really good one at it too, and figured I'd share it with the digitalpoint community

I sold a website, dazvideos.com.
It made a very nice profit in the short time I had it, and needed some quick funds.
I found a buyer for $2,500 on sitepoint.
I gave him FTP access, upon which he sent the payment via paypal.
Then I pushed the domain to his godaddy account, and thought the deal was over.

I log back into paypal, and notice I have an 'unauthorized' claim against my account.
I sent paypal 13 pages worth of logs, and had 4 conversations with a paypal representative. Each time they understood my side and garunteed me that this guy has no case.

I just got back from a holiday and checked it out.
Turns out I "Shipped" the "Item" to the wrong "adress".
Being the paypal address the money also came from..

Can anyone explain this to me?

Also I noticed its the guy who owns lmmfao.com.
Take a look, the website is mirrored on dazvideos.lmmfao.com
Surprising isnt it?

It's sad that people do this everyday to these people. I personally believe in an honest living. So my thing is what goes around comes around.

The truth is that this is far too common.

Yes, it is saddening to find that such people exist, especially when the amount of money involved is not small at all.

This is one of the cons of having the internet I guess - it's becoming a platform for scammers to pray on unsuspecting people.

This is very sad but it is very true! Paypal charge backs are not very secure, it is far too easy to get your money back whether it be a new house or a simple package of chocolates, there's always a "money back guarantee!" Just not in a good way...

Here is How we get Pay pal Scams....The most common email scam used for phishing a pay pal account contained a message that said that the pay pal account needs to be updated. The reader is urged to login to his pay pal account by clicking a link on the email itself. The email also claimed that failure to update the pay pal account would result in a suspension of the account. The link on the email would lead to a web page owned by the fraudster who would then record the login details for evil intentions. We will repeat here that, the link would appear to be a genuine pay pal link in the display, but the actual URL would be hidden in the source code of the email.

That is correct, I always either check the source of the email or do not click the links at all. Besides, I find it easier to simply type http://www.paypal.com into my browser! What is the big deal of typing ten characters to prevent having large sums of cash stolen?

Well, not everyone is as well-informed about such scam tactics as we are.
Some people may be so worried about their own paypal accounts that they do not even think twice when they click on the link in the email.
That is why education on common frauds is so important, which is what this forum is for!
