Paypal is used because of sheer number of people accepting it to have transactions.

2CO is the best alternative of Paypal to accept credit card payments as a merchant. It's fees is high as comapred to Paypal but it is certainly worth every cent.

The payment processor has to be widely famous before people can start using them.In case the person whom you want to pay does not have an account in that payment processor???

If you are looking for paypal aternative, then the first choice from everyone will be Moneybookers and e-gold. I too recommend moneybookers only in alternative to paypal. But, on my view Paypal is the best.

Keep in mind "merchantInc.com" own "paypalsucks.com" hence why they recommend merchantinc.com.. Merchantinc is a reseller of FirstData/Cardservice international. Before you go with any company check them out with the BBB. you might find some interesting things.

Also merchantinc is not a paypal alternative. The sell true merchant accounts. Your rates will be lower and you will save money if you process more than $3500 per month in sales including their monthly fees. After the first $3,500 you process with a merchant account, you can expect to save close to $10-15 for every thousand you process per month after that depending on your average sale size. here is an example of a merchant who process's $10,000 per month with an average sale of $50 below:

Paypal
($50 * 2.9%) + 30 cents = $1.75
$1.75 * 200 transactions = $350
paypal has no monthly fees so your monthly processing cost would be $350

now with an average merchant account:
($50 * 2.05%) + 25 cents = $1.275
$1.275 * 200 transactions = $255
+ $10 statement fee
+ $15 gateway fee
-------------------------
Total = $280 in processing fees

Thats $70 per month or a $840 a year you will save by using a true merchant account.

Other benefits are:
- Merchant providers don't freeze your account
- Merchant accounts make your business appear more professional and trustworthy,
- Cheaper rates
- Money is automatically sent into your bank account within 2 business days.
- Your business name and phone appears on your customers bill
- Your customer dose not leave your website to pay for their item.
- 24/7 true customer service. If there ever a problem, you will have someone to talk to who can actually help you, not just a generic support rep who only can give you pre-written answers to your problem.

Thanks for sharing this info with us. A major drawback is that many people do not accept this service

Paypal does not have anything wrong in fact. You can say that they have high fees but it has a good service.People who claim to have better alternative always say paypal is bad and it is not true.

2CO isn't like paypal, there is no signing up if your a buyer. It is more like a real merchant account except the payment form is not on your website.

Also remember merchant inc is NOT a paypal alternative. it is a true merchant account which goes through first data. They process a lot more transaction than paypal does. Chances are, you have bought something from a first data merchant before. Although you would never know it because unlike paypal, The stores name and information is all that appears on your credit card statement. There is no third party website customers go and sign up on. Paypal more than likely will never be as large or process as many sales as first data because paypal is strictly online. Most small-medium offline business's in the US have a FD merchant account through some merchant services provider.
