Default MySpace helping scammers?

An Australian judge found out that someone had created a MySpace profile using his name and photos.

He contacted MySpace and they said it may be the first confirmed identity fraud case on their site.

When asked if they would get in contact with the real authors of the profile page, MySpace refused.

Is MySpace helping these scammers?

I know that they refuse to contact people who have been convicted of a crime generating from the site as well.

If they continue to do this, people will continue to be defrauded and killed even.

I do not think they are being killed.

I have recently contacted MySpace with profile theft and given them the url and everything require.

They get back to me saying "Can not find the profile sorry"

Did they even both to work? Is this what we can expect from them? Make millions from us but to lazy to answer a serious email! My god.

I agree that Myspace is helping hackers and scammers. I know that a couple of my friends' myspaces got hacked. For example, there are some pages where if you click their "avatar" or "picture", it will actually redirect you to a different site which looks very similar to the Myspace login page. Thus, it asks for your details. Once they get your details, they will post advertisements and stuff on your page as well as change the password.

Well, if the guy haven't proved his identity to Myspace, I understand, but if he does/has already, I wonder why Myspace doesn't do anything..

To protect their reputation. If they don't say anything the problem will go away. Maybe that's what they think, which is what a lot of people would.

I had been messaging with someone on my space when he started asking for money, he's in another country and now has three bogus accounts on my space, that I know of. Does anyone know what I can do about this. It's the typical I'll send you a check you send me the money, I'm in abad way kind of thing. I told him I reported him, and he is irate, but I don't know who to report him to. I even have a international number that I called and he answered.

You can report him to MySpace and get his accounts deleted. Maybe they'll even block his IP. You'd need to have solid proof though.

Real solid proof indeed. It still stumps me why someone would do this.
