do you need a Credit card to join and can you join in the uk?

Credit card is only for verification purpose and to bring funds into you account, not for opening an account.

You do not need a credit card to join, neither you need it for receiving money. It is only used when you are uploading or downloading funds via credit card. However, proving your identity and address is a must.

You do not need CC to join mb but only to upload or withdraw money through CC.
Otherwise you can upload and withdraw funds through wire transfer.
