And how would you propose to do that?

Default Credit card picture

I saw a commercial for a credit card with a picture of the card owner added into it. Do not recall which card it was - I think one of Visa's versions, but am not sure.

Always crosscheck the identity of the customer with another ID before any transaction. A ID with photo is very good way to do so

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am pasting this directly from the official rules for merchants: http://usa.visa.com/download/merchan..._merchants.pdf

Although Visa rules do not preclude merchants from asking for cardholder ID, merchants cannot make an ID a condition of acceptance. Therefore, merchants cannot refuse to complete a purchase transaction because a cardholder refuses to provide ID. Visa believes merchants should not ask for ID as part of their regular card acceptance procedures. (Emphasis is Visa's) Laws in several states also make it illegal for merchants to write a cardholder’s personal information, such as an address or phone number, on a sales receipt.

In other words, you can ask for an ID but if the customer refuses, you must accept the card anyhow. The only exception is if the card is not signed or says "SEE ID" in the signature panel. In that case, you MUST ask for an ID and the customer MUST sign the card or you may NOT accept the card. The words “Not Valid Without Signature” appear above, below, or beside the signature panel on all Visa cards.

I strongly encourage you, as a merchant, to download and read this document!
