Has anyone used a third party merchant account before, such as 2 Checkout? I hear that the service is unrealiable, and that they hold 50% of funds as security. Can anyone give me a review or confirm this?

It's a very common confusion but 2checkout isn't a third party merchant account, they are what's known as a payment aggregator. It's their merchant account that you are using.

Amongst all the third party billers or payment aggregators if you will, 2checkout is one of the more reputable.

By opening a third party merchant account, we have to give some security and charges for operating the account and they hold the security for one year only

Third party merchant accounts are more reliable than other accounts as in this case the payment is more safe. Charges levied by them are not unreasonable
