Forum incentives

What incentive beside the usual free domain and hosting will you give to posters to encourage them to post in your forum. I am actually giving free cds for posting on my forum.

Any other ideas?

Well u can give out Tshirts with your website logo on it.. will serve the branding purposes as well.

On my forums I have given free mobile phone cards and also free cinema tickets.
It works well because my forum users are mainly teens.

My forum issues points per post and thread and also has a shop where users can redeem points for my products. My users are crafters, so getting free cocoa butter is a GREAT incentive for them to post.

Just give out cash via paypal or something like that, also if you have t-shirts or stickers to hand out run some contests!

Free stuff will get you visitors right away, yes, however, don't expect them to come back. I know one forum owner who spent over $15k on free stuff, cash prizes and more for his forum and then a month after that ended, most of the users were gone. Spend the money and time offering quality free tools, good content and good feedback. Money may seem the quick response and while most assume some will stay, doesn't happen.

I think one good way is to give posters the options on how they can convert their posts. That could be in monetary form, ad or banner link, domain names, web hosting, other free stuff, etc. It should be point system so it is easier to convert.

Google Adsense revenue sharing can also be a good incentive. This is appropriate for forums with good traffic and whose keywords are high paying keywords.
