Default Credit Card Number

Why is it that Google checkout needs to get your credit card number in order to sign up for their payment processor? Is Google checkout just a third party or middle man of the credit cards company?

I think that is the only way you can fund payments through them so they figure there is no point in signing up if you are not willing to put in you CC. It is the same with adsense to sign-up you have to give them your SSN, even if you are denied.

I guess you are right, but how do you think it stops fraud. Someone could just sign up with someone elses credit card. I still think its gotta be for another reason as well.

The credit card requirement is part of the verification process of Google Checkout. You can't use anybody's card because your Google Checkout information is reckoned with your credit card information. Any discripancy is tantamount to your Google Checkout account's disapproval.

Yes, it is the required for google checkout, I don't think it's third party because I don't think google uses third party except for some of their listings!

Probably they dont want any scammers in their network of accounts so they ask for authentication right at the doorstep.

I don't think there's anything wrong with giving them your credit card number if you're going to send and receive payments.

I think Google is doing so your our own security as this is for fraud protection... I think Google is not a yesterday born company and and we should not hesitate in giving our credit cared number to it.
