Default Translation scam

I hired someone to do translation of my website from English to Spanish at proz.com and paid in advance via MoneyBookers. He never did the work for me. Any way to get my money back?

All you can do is contact MoneyBookers and see what they can do for you.

Why would you pay him full payment in advance? Its usually done like this

20% payment before work started
80% payment after work is completed and verified.

You could do nothing now, a lesson to be careful in future.

If I have any doubts in people, I use GAF escrow. While not the best option, it certainly helps prevent some fraud.

That's the danger of paying in advance. Especially for anything that isn't a physical product. You can get E-Bay to get your money if someone doesn't pay you. It's a lot harder, and a lot of times impossible, to prove that an electronic product wasn't delivered.

That's right. Paying upfront without knowing the person would put in such situations only

Never pay in advance. Only pay when they do half the work and such. Like pay half when they do half the work. And pay the rest when finished.

I'm not too familiar with MB but it seems you're screwed. Sorry.
Never pay till the job is complete.
