I'm quite lost here. Are you referring to the photo that appears beside the new email alert? This is also called avatar right? I also did not put much attention to it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

yahoo has always been doing something for its users protection. the new photo thing helps in protecting the users from password thefts.....good work done by yahoo

I agree, the "image thing" is placed there so you can see that you are logging in to an unduplicated email site. This is a simple way that can prevent phishers from giving you an unauthentic site.

Im not sure what is meant by "image thing" can someone please explain to me in better detail?

Yahoo has a very huge number of online visitors per day. Its eveident that they care about their site`s security. I think they have also bought many domainnames which are similar to yahoo.com so that they dont be used by phishers
