I have never been spammed from a directories as I have yet to submit my site to them.. I am not sure if they help my site get traffic.

I regestered for a such directory names free link exchage and It literally has bombed my mail with 100s of mails everyday. I recently reported it as smap and now they automatically land up in spam folder rather than clogging my inbox.
