Default Emails

How do people obtain our email address and send us spam. Do they obtain our addresses legally and is there a way of preventing them from getting our address.

I ma receiving from 30 spam messages per day and I am unsure how these people got my email address.

Your email can be obtained when placed ANYWHERE on the internet. As long as it's public, it's spammable.

If I put my email address in this thread, it will most likely be spammed.

Avoid being spammed simply by replacing "@" with "[at]".

It is better not to leave your e mail id on any unsecured link which you do not prefer to visit frequently as some off them sell these as a list for spam mails

Right. The safest thing to do is post nothing at all but sometimes it's necessary.

Give people your Email and the person can give to others.
Things spread you know?
Thats why I have an Email that gets around 5 spams a day.

If you publish your email online, email crawlers will be able to capture your email address. Also, joining free sites will make you susceptible to spam because these sites can use your email address. It is a good option to maintain an email purely for personal use or official use and another email for public use.

Pretty much like Jerlene mentioned. Anywhere you type your email address in, on the net you are risking some kind of spam. That doesnt mean that if you register for a forum you will get spammed but rather that if you sign up for an offer or just at a random site with your email you will probably get spammed daily. A way to bypass this is just type in as people call them "fake emails" on random offer sites if they do not require validation. :P

Everyday when I login to my email account, I will see at least 200+ of spam mails keep spamming in my bulk email. Those spam mails just coming from all around the place and I just deleted it for good...
