Default Victim

Have you ever been the victim in online fraud? I was on Ebay about 4 years ago, lost close to $2200.

What happened Luc? Did you learn anything from this, and did it have any effect on your online activity? I, myself, have been lucky and avoided becoming the victim of online fraud.

I was an Amazon merchant and I was looking to buy large amount of used DVD's to sell, this ebay seller was offering the stock of a close video rental store (like a blockbuster I guess). SO I won the auction for $2200 for about 1100 used DVD's and paid certified check (big mistake).

He never sent the DVD's, I found a phone number and it turned out to be some kid, I got in touch with his mother a few times but of course she sided with the kid. I called the police department in his home town but they didnt do anything. The kid lived about 1000 miles away so I would have had to take off work fly out there and get a lawyer and go to trial. What a huge mess.

Moral of the story, for large purchases research the seller and use a payment service with some sort of strong buyer protection.
