Default Tracking Frauds on Forum

There are already frauds on forums. Users who have been found guilty of this just change their usernames and they are on to doing it again. How can we check this? Is there a way to see the IP addresses of the members? If we are just a regular member of the forum and not the webmaster, can we see other members' IP address? I think tracking IP address is one way to track scammers.

Yes, tracking the IP address of members is a form of fraud protection.
Usually, the forum moderators and admin would be able to view the IP address of every forum member, and so they can weed out the troublemakers rather easily.

Yes forum moderators and administrators are able to view I.P's of users but i shall like to say that you can't trace if user is on Dial up because dial ups assign users a different I.P every time they log on again . There should be some strong solution for this .

Well, at least there aren't many internet users who are on dial-up right now.
For that matter, it's hard to trace those who are on proxies as well.
At least we can safely say that the problem is largely solved with the ability to detect IPs for moderators and admins.

You can easily track their ips by asking mods/admins but they could be at it simply using a proxy!

Default more than one way to skin a scam

Aren't there more ways to detect if it is the same person? How about their writing style, typos, punctuation, pages visited, screen res, plus.. can't you block those proxy sites on a list? I know it is not nice to block all proxies.. but I'm just asking, because I am not sure how this works. I am a member of a community that shares adsense and obviously you're only supposed to have one adsense ID and you don't get in the community without one, so at least it seems to be a clean place with value and honesty. Hopefully people won't sign up with others' account numbers, tsk tsk!

The problem with tracking by ip is that someone using the same computer will be implicated to the crime even if it was just a coworker or something.

In some of the more open source forum software..an admin can track the ip's of individual posters. The key is to not enable the ip to be seen in the forum boards.

I think that if someone wanted to commit fraud. they can do it. As soon as they find one way to catch someone, they find another way. Some people are so computer savvy.
