Shill Bidding

On many forums, when a seller is selling something, he asks his friends to make shill bidding which is very sad in my opinion. Any idea how to prevent this practice?

This is a horrible practice and if you smell it, you should report it to the admins and mods so that they can check IPs for duplicate accounts and if found guilty then should be banned forever.

Even eBay can't control shill bidding then the forums are small thing. The only way to prevent this is to say a budget for particular thing and don't bid more than that.

Unfortunately because of the practice, it's impossible to prevent it. Ultimately you just have to be weary, if something doesn't look right, go elsewhere. For example, I've seen auctions jump from $100.00 to $5,000.00 for no reason whatsoever. This can often be a sign of shill bidding but most people today are smarter than that.

Some mods have become very vigilant and can smell such malpractices in their forums. One should work only on forums of high repute

A lot of people shill bidding on ebay and may other auction site. Those things just can't be avoided.
