What drives two brothers to form a scam duo? Parenting you may say... but these are guys near to retirement! I for one am glad that David and John Zepeda are facing 104 counts of identity theft and rental frauds. I hope they lock them up and throw away the key!
Is the Illinois toll scam still going on? i ended up with a fine when I drove there a coupke of years ago. I had no idea of how to get into the right lane - the signs are confusing when you are new to the area. Plus you can't get out of a lane once you are in it. The actual toll was less than a dollar but they robbed me of $20 on top for not paying something I had no idea about.

It seems that one effect of reality TV is that everyone thinks they are a star waiting to be discovered! Apart from those prepared to be humiliated on live TV there are many more willing to pay for it. Spotty? Out of shape? Short? Worry no more - there is someone somewhere who will take your cash, promise you a modelling career and snigger all the way to the bank. I tend to think that some people are just asking to be scammed.

I recently visited a small country store in an area where everyone pretty much knows everyone else. The owner told me that she incurred a $100.00 chargeback because she allowed the card owner's son to use the card to make a purchase. The same person did that at another store not far away on the same day. The owner of the card refused the charge and there wasn't anything the owners could do because they allowed the purchases.

When you're selling online, how do you protect yourself from this type of thing?

I thought I was pretty slick at recognizing scams, but Google Treasure Chest got me. They offer a CD for 79 cents to learn how to make money at home, or something like that. The only thing is that you are automatically signed up to join a site that takes $79.00 a month out of your account. The first I knew of the $79.00/month was when it had been taken from my account. It's been a while, so the prices may have changed.

When you call to recover your money, they are the absolute best at giving you the run-around. I probably never would have recovered my money had it not been for intervention from my bank.

This group uses other names, and all are scams. There are pages of complaints about them online.

I wasn't notified that the year was up and didn't give it any thought until my friend called and complained that the payment for a second year had been charged automatically to her credit card. What followed was one unholy mess which involved her initiating a chargeback against them. She failed. Do you think this practice justifies chargebacks? I certainly do.
