Yes, e-gold is very secure,you don't have to worry. The only thing is you should be quite carefull with password and should keep it secret.

the charges are less when compared to paypal... also security is the prime keyfactor in egold. but i have not yet used egold and planning to switch over to egold.

I have no experience with eGold, but I heard many people use this on virtual goods and also there is no chargebacks, so it must suck for the buyer if the seller scams the user.

I have an e-gold account too, so far so good , no such big problem.
But i suggest to use a fixed / static ip address for e-gold.
If you are using dynamic / floating ip, you need to enter the 6 pin-code which is very un-convenient as i feel. You need to the browser and copy & paste the pin code to the post login page, what a good security!!!!

i know is very secure if u don't anyhow open email and click link that they claim they are from egold... as for how they pay us... i am also wondering how am we going to withdraw from egold...currently i exchange egold for paypal so i can withdraw from my paypal to my bank account
