Thread: Finding fraud before it happens?

I use e-bay for some small purchases, but I am worried about making any large purchases because of fraud. I know about checking feedback reading the fine print, but what other kind of techniques work? Also should you trust those 3rd party listing sites that say they have strict rules?

Theres everything you could ever want on eBay.. I dont recommend other sites.. but thats just me.. a better way to protect yourself make sure that they have excellent rep from buyers and also get from Canada or US.. I have only been only not recieved an item once from the US 3 times in UK and hong kong...

I don't buy electronic items on Ebay because there is lots of fraud. The best option would be to buy from sellers with huge positive feedbacks, this will reduce the risk of fraud.

I always tell people them same thing. Use Paypal and pay by credit card, and if the item never shows and you have been scammed you have more recourse than just Ebay and Paypal because you can enter a dispute with your credit card company. That is the best way to protect yourself.

There's always a risk of being scammed. You can get scammed in a regular store if you get "helped" by an employee who lies to you in order to make a product look good so he can sell it.

Just go with someone with a good reputation. That's really about the only thing you can do.

I have always felt comfortable with eBay and i know thEIr a bit of hesitation in the starting but i am sure you gonna like it ... Just go ahead with that ....

You can understand the fraud easily if the seller gives an item for a very low price.That means a possible fraud.I know it is very basic but it protects people from scammers.

When you check a prospective buyer's feedback make sure you do go into detail and look at the listings where they are the buyer - a lot of scammers use bots to buy all the penny buy it now items so that they can get a huge feedback score before they go and scam someone.

We always carry the risk of fraud. And this risk is directly proportional to the return (read discounts) that we aim for. Higher the returns (discounts) higher the risk !

I think you should generally be pretty cautious of sites like ebay. Don't buy anything that you can go across the street and pick up. Even though it may be a good deal remember sometimes you get what you pay for. So my rule of thumb is don't put out more than you're willing to loose.
