It all depends on how much you know actually.
Try to begin by learning the basics of html and css.
Then move on to sone scripting language.
If you have any questions please ask...

It depends.
You could also buy a website. In that case you only need to know how to maintain a website.......

No problem.

First of all you should know some of marketing.
Read articles about it.

Second there is userfreindlyness, you need to keep your visitors happy in order for them to come back. Make sure you have fresh content.

In case of the directory make sure you market it well. Mainly when people want to submit their site to a directory they look to pagerank. Make sure your website is SEO freindly. If you dont know what that means search google for it .

Forums are hard to set up. Try some paid posting and advertise it a bit. No one will sign up if your forum is dead.

I am sure I missed a lot of things but I think I covered the basics well.

The tasks of a webmaster are not limited to the technical aspect like web development and website administration. More importantly, the tasks emcompass web marketing which takes into account search engine optimization.

You should really know all of the basic codes that go into developing a website! Then you should look into it deeper!
