Default Favorite forum software

What is your favorite forum software? Pick two, one paid and one free.

Paid of course it has to be vBulletin - Instant Community for me even though I could never afford one lol. Its my favorite.

Free is phpBB Creating Communities Worldwide for sure. So many mods, so many skins, so much happyness

I've moderated on a few vBulletin forms before but to be honest I didn't like it that much.

phpBB is admittedly not as good out of the box, but you can mod it to make it so much better than vBulletin in my opinion - so I vote for phpBB as being the best one both free and paid for.

If don't need many features you should also check out PunBB

It's very lightweight and extremely fast.

Paid forum software will be vbulletin.
Free forum software will be smf as it is more secure than phpbb and also has a growing community behind it.

Totally agree with you that SMF is more secure than phpbb but the only down side is that it is difficult to change the themes yourself if you do not have a good knowledge of css and php.

There are only two forums softwares I've used - vBulletin and phpBB. I'm sure that is the case with most of the users.
