Bad Credit

I recently used a free online credit report check and there were a few things on the report that I have no clue about. Then about ten days later I got a letter on behalf of Fingerhut that says they are ready to settle a debt with me.

They are crazy, I never bought anything from them. I have the letter laying here on the table and I don't know what step to take next. The balance on it is for over $300! Do you think they will knock on my door if I ignore the letter?

Well, no, they aren't coming knocking on your door, pretty sure about that. Although strange things do happen. Ultimately they are probably going to send it from one agency to the next to try and collect it. My advice, keep everything you do in writing, and make sure you log everything they do, including calls and letters. Just stand firm on your contention that you don't owe them any money.

This is good advice - Fingerhut is known for being tenacious. Sometimes errors happen, especially with data entry. If you don't owe them any money, prove it, and have your logs, then you will be prepared no matter what they do.

Usually, when a company realizes how organized and serious you are, they will look and see that you do not owe them the money. They do not want to go to court over a small amount.

With Fingerhut, this may take a while. Good luck.

That is weird, did you read all of the fine print, they are probably trying to get you to buy something in the process!

Be ready with your documents. Everything should be in writing which you can use to prove that you never bought anything from them.
