My husband received a debt collector letter for an amount of $225 from a telephone company. It said he owed the money in 2001, six years ago. They even had a mobile telephone number. The problem was my husband had never owned a mobile phone in his name. He has a work phone in his companies name and has always used that as his own as well. They are trying to take my husband to court. They even have the wrong address. How can they get away with this?
Get proof when you moved in and also let them take you to court. If they could just be hoaxing you and getting you worried. Try and resolve it and show some proof of the time you lived there etc. If you do have to go to Court, then you should win it easily with a Lawyer if what you are saying is true.
.
Last week my brother had a collection agency call his house for his wife. My brother was going to take care of the bill, he asked how much the bill was. They did not want to talk to him, They wanted to talk to his wife. The wife don't want to talk to them. So they keep calling. Last time he was able to make one payment on the bill but they don't want to give him any information.
Why don't you reverse sue then, for false bills and harassing. If the bills are not at your husband's name, and the address is wrong as well, how come you are suppose to pay the bill, got ahead and sue them.
I thinm you should report the matter to the police and you can easily sue them by moving into the consumer courts. I think this will make a difference.
get the name and address of the original creditor. write for a debt validation. tell them they may not call you and only communicate via writing. you will get the information and make a decision if it is a real debt.
