Default Calling your neighbors

I actually heard a report that someone was not paying their debt, so the collection agency called their neighbor and asked them to give the person in a debt a note that was something like "You are XXX in debt. Please give me a call back at PHONE".

I guess they try to embarress the person into paying.

They do...collectors are usually careless pieces of ....

I've heard stories as well where they've tried to frighten children into finding payment info for them...

Nobody like collectors, but they are just doing their job. Sometimes, they will work with you, sometimes not. It really depends on the person who is doing the collecting and what company they work for.

That is against the law, and the collection agency can be sued for that. It is illegal for them to discuss your debt with anyone but you or your legal spouse. If the neighbor is willing to get involved that person could get a nice settlement out of it.
