I was 20 years old when I first got my credit card. I started out at a low credit limit and kept this for a number of years so that temptation would not get in my way. I have learnt to always pay my outstanding amount within the free interest days and then you dont get into trouble. Over here in Australia you can not get a credit card in your name under 18 years of age. You can have a second card that is in your parents name. Your parents have the actual credit and they have given you permission to be a second card holder. But I wouldnt let my 14 year old do this any way it is to young.

You do need to be 18 to get a credit card but it is very easy for someone to write down they are 18 on an application. I got mine when i was 18 from best buy... cancelled that after i paid off my computer then now have a master card... never use it, its only to verify paypal account and ebay..

I first got my credit card when I was 17 years old then. However, it was an extension not actually a cards that is under my name. I got my "own"credit card when I was 20 years old and that time I'm already working. Having a credit card somehow helped me when I lost a job but I'm in a burden right now paying off all of those debt.

I was 21 when I got my first credit card. I waited until I got my first full time job.

I was 19 when I got my Visa. I don't really think there is any appropriate age to have a credit card, I mean even if you are paying it back, it is just using money you don't really have. I just use it mostly for paypal and ebay like Joecool.
