I have tried lotus notes MSoffice and staroffice. But I can assure you that the amount microsoft charges for office software is totally legitimate and apt for such a good software they have made.

I love Open office. It does take a little getting used to at first after years of MS Office use, but it's worth the switch. My favorite part is the ability to save things as a PDF.

OpenOffice is great, especially because it can open up Microsoft Office files. Yeah, it's not as pretty, but for a price of $0, I can live with that. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the new Office...I just don't really like the navigation bar at the top. It took me forever to get used to.

Open Office is an open source like Msoffice. If you use a Linux environment, this is an ideal application to use since it functions like your MS Office.

I have used open office and found it to be not as good as microsoft office, which i feel was more easy to use than open office, and i also i have been very much used to using microsoft office and hence have difficulty switching to another office tool!
