These are good tips and should be followed carefully, I do remember once when I booked a restaurant table and it was on a night that would be very busy, the man on the other end of the phone asked me for my credit card number to hold the table, it is a done thing here, I gave it to him and two nights before we were due to go for a meal there was a death in my husband's family and I was all up in arms organising funerals and family.

I had totally forgotten about the table being booked and when I got my next credit card statement there was a charge of €45.00, I phoned the restaurant and I asked why I had been charge this and they told me it was a cancellation fee ! I told them that I was never told about a cancellation fee and then I proceeded to tell them about the death, the girl dealing with me said "we have heard all the excuses, we are not refunding the charge".

I contacted my bank and they did absolutely nothing for me.
