I am currently waiting on my credit card company to 'investigate' two chargebacks I instigated. I'm a bit concerned that they are going to take forever to decide I lose out!

It can take a long time, unfortunately. I once waited about two months. I did finally get the money, but it was pretty tough.
I guess it depends on the amount. Mine usually happen within weeks. One gave me back the money immediately and then investigated. The other company took just a week because when they contacted the charged back company he agreed it was his fault.
I think it depends on what route you take. I know some places have merchant accounts that if the company actually issues the refund its quicker than a charge back. Did you charge back on your own or go through the company that charged the card?
Sometimes the credit card company or bank is nice enough to reverse the charge while they investigate. I wonder, though, if this is really a good idea, because it's not cool when they have to take it back out.
Thanks to everyone for the responses.
Ethicsplease, I called the credit card company and their policy is to investigate. They insisted that I try to contact the merchants myself first, and ask for a refund. I was unable to do this as all websites and emails were fake.
