I heard about someone who audio records the orders taken over the phone. Do you think that is a good way to add an extra layer of proof that you processed an order should they chargeback at a later date?

Doesn't his customers get turned off by this process ? I mean its illegal to audio record a phone call without the participants consent and I doubt everyone are willing to let their conversation be recorded.
I have been notified that calls I make may be recorded'for customer service training or monitoring', that usually happens when I call a helpline or information line. However, I don't think it's illegal to actually do it secretly in every state or country in the world.
No it isn't illegal in every state as far as I know either and I knew a lady who had an adult business and recorded the calls. She would use them to play to the customer if he said he didn't make the call or that he didn't authorize the charge. She never got chargebacks.
If you are a merchant and someone authorizes the charge over the phone I think it is always a good plan to take a recording of it then you get the "signing" effect which will most likely stand up.
Whether or not it's legally required, the message stating "this call may be recorded" is probably a good idea. It will CYA, in any case!
