    Are credit cards worth it?

Chargebacks are becoming increasingly common, an issue aggravated by the way credit card companies seem to value their card holders needs over those of the merchant. In light of this I wonder if they are really worth having as an option. What do you think?

Personally I think they are if you use a decent merchant account (online at least) who will always look at your side of the story and protect you. Someone once attempted a chargeback on me and my merchant account protected me and allowed me to put accross that I have lost out if the chargeback goes through.

Good point there MoneyBroke. What was the reason for the chargeback? Do you think it was a case of someone trying their hand at scamming, not a professional but perhaps they have heard or read about it?

I think its essential to build a good credit history if you want to buy house or car in future.

I do indeed think it was someone trying but not quite being able to do it properly, my merchant account successfully blocked it and got in contact with the bank the request was coming from.

Moneybroke - I'm glad to hear you won out. There are a lot of people out there who just take a chance that they can get their money back and keep the product. People claim the item is not as described because the picture didn't catch every tiny detail of something and so on. I am sure that most would give up if challenged, as happened with you.
