Thread: Unauthorized transaction!!

I was looking through my credit statements yesterday and noticed a withdraw for a company I did not purchase anything from. I called the company but was put on hold for 1 1/2 and then my call was disconnected. Should I dispute the charge with my credit card company or should I try to call the company again?

Tough call. I would probably try and call the company again. Hopefully this time they won't put you on hold for such a long time. I probably would have ended up hanging up after too long of waiting.

I think that you will have a better chance lodging a complaint with your credit card company than with the merchant that charged something to your credit card. Maybe your security has been compromised.

I agree with leonardo. Log a complaint with your credit card company. Chances are they will respond back to you in a timely manner about your complaint. Best of luck, and I hope your security has not been compromised.

It couldn't hurt to call the company again to get a hold of somebody. Perhaps you ordered something and the company you ordered it from has a different corporate name that you don't recognize. There is a good possibility of fraud, however. If you have no success with getting a hold of them or they are unwilling to reverse the charges, you should definite contact the credit card company for a chargeback.

I remember a long time ago (more than a decade ago) when my cousin's credit card was hacked. It was NOT stolen, her info was hacked. She apparently "purchased" some books and CDs in Amazon and had it sent to another person (total stranger) in Singapore and some shoes sent to someone in the Philippines. She hit the roof when she saw the bill! I think the credit card company eventually realized that it could not have been my cousin's purchases and so they did not charge her for those items.

If it was unauthorized, then the transactor was at fault and is liable for the fine.

Contact your company as soon as possible. Keep them posted on your attempts with the charger. If you can't get satisfaction from the charging company, your credit people may forgive the charges made to your card. This has happened to my daughter. After a documented few attempts, her bank removed the charges. They had her open a new account.
