Do chargebacks effect my credit score??

    Hey guys,

I recently took my car to an auto mechanic because it was not functioning. I was told I would be charged $189 to diagnose the problem. I was told that I be told exactly what the problem was.

The mechanic told me the problem was my idle air control valve. He said a replacement would cost $500. I told him no. I paid the $189 for the diagnosis and went to Auto Zone.

I purchased an idle air control valve from auto zone for $50. I installed the part myself (it was very easy). This did not fix my problem.

I went back to the mechanic and told him that he had given me an incorrect diagnosis and that I felt I should be refunded my money. He basically told me to go pound sand.

I paid with a credit card. I have the mechanic's written diagnosis stating the problem was the idle air control valve. I have my receipt from Auto Zone dated the next day showing that I bought an idle air control valve. I also can show proof the car is still not functioning.

My question is simple. If I do a chargeback against this mechanic to get my $189 back can he report me to the credit reporting agencies and damage my credit?

Also, do chargebacks show up on my credit report?

A credit score is very much like a score you would get on a test - you get points for everything positive and points taken away for everything negative.
Most credit scores can range from 300 to 900 points, and like a test score, the higher your credit rating, the better. There are a number of factors that can affect your credit score positively or negatively.

Things that affect your credit score positively:
    * Paying your bills on time and in full.
    * Using 25 percent or less of your available credit. Ideally, you should carry a balance of no more than $2,500 if your credit limit is $10,000.
    * Steady employment. People who are steadily employed are viewed as being better able to pay their bills on time.

Although all of that information is correct it does not answer the question.

Chargebacks themselves do not effect your credit rating; but those companies that get chargedback may well add you to database taht is attached to a credit rating system. This is used more so for the "Friendly fraud" / "policy fraud".

So if you are charging back something that is not genuinly fraudulent then yes you have a risk of your credit rating being effected.

How can we add these people that do chargebacks for the wrong reasons ? ( they receive an item then they chargeback because they didn't receive it ? )
Can you let us know a link or a place to start this ?

Filing a charge back as in you did not receive goods or service does not affect your credit rating. In fact in most cases it is a basic right that you have being a credit card holder.
