Thread: Checking Account Chargeback

I don't know much about chargebacks but have been trying to find information on them. Every experience I read about pertains to chargeback via credit card. I want to chargeback a purchase I made via paypal with my checking account. Is there a chance my bank will charge it back or do chargebacks only work with credit cards? If it is possible do I just call my bank and tell them my situation? Thanks!

This sounds like something that you'd have to initiate through PayPal but before you do...

You didn't say why you want to do the 'chargeback' but since you made the purchase and now want to chargeback, we can assume there was a problem with the product. That being the case, why not contact the merchant about the problem. You might be surprised how quick they are to refund if you return the merchandise.

I ordered a power leveling service for World of Warcraft and was lied to by the "company." The "company" is a scam and there is no chance for them to reply to my wishes that they money be send back. PayPal does not grant money back unless confronted by a bank; the focus of this thread is about my confusion about chargebacks and if they only pertain to credit cards. The issue at hand is rather irrelevant. I want to know this before I call my bank and sound like a tool.

You should immediately pull your originating documentation for this transaction and fax it to your credit card processor.A chargeback notification simply tells you that your account has been debited for a particular transaction. It should display information about why such an amount was debited from your account. You should read the notice carefully, then decide whether it is correct. If it is not, you should immediately send the notification to the financial institution, along with your supporting documentation. If the issuing bank sees that your rebuttal is sufficient, the chargeback will be reserved and the amount will be credited back to your account.
