    Chargeback over quality?

Has anyone ever received a chargeback because a person just didn't like their product or claimed that the quality was not good? I recently had a dispute with someone over this, and on top of that, they refused to return the item!

I see it all the time. The challenge is the chargeback reason code is often left up to the person inputting the data and more so sometimes when consumers simply don't want to pay they claim fraud and it's pretty much an automatic chargeback for merchants. Sad but true.

Not all payment processors allow chargebacks for flimsy reasons. Perhaps you need to think about switching to one which is a little tougher? Or maybe have a clear (and supportive) policy for those who want to return items?

I think I will have to re-do my return policy. It's just crazy how you have to make it sound more and more like you are talking to Kindergardeners. I guess, now that I think about it, bad quality might be a reason to not be happy about something, but I think if you simply don't like it, it is not always the sellers fault. I have a very clear description of the item, and if someone buys without reading and then has a problem with something that was clearly pointed out, it shouldn't be my problem.

I've noticed that in chargebacks thru paypal, your return policy is never considered. It's like they just ignore it completely.

PayPal really needs some serious competition to break their stranglehold on the market! Imagine going to a store and buying a cookery book, being unable to make the first recipe, then getting to keep it and get your money back. You'd never get away with that so why is it okay online?

Sad but true regarding PayPal's policy with chargebacks. I deal with digital products, so although it's annoying, I'm not really losing anything tangible. I feel for those who sell physical products and lose not only the money but the product. Maybe people don't want to pay the shipping to return an item. What about if you included a shipping label to allow for free returns?

I agree with Buzz above. Although it's true that many people are just out there looking to scam others, if you beef up your customer service and make returns as easy as possible, customers are more likely to call you first before their cc company. It's annoying that people don't read the descriptions closely enough, but you reversing a charge (perhaps give them credit) is much better than the bank doing it, because you end up paying more in fees, etc.
