Thread: Download Merchants

Are there any other download merchants out there? If so what reason codes are you disputing?

I would really like to understand what you have just said, so, pardon me for my ignorance but, what is a "download merchant"? Is it someone who sells software that you can download? What are "reason codes" and why would anyone dispute them? Thanks.

Yup your right with the download merchant, a reason code is the code assinged to the reason someone has created the chargeback (ie Visa reason code for fraud is 83) , and you would dispute them to keep your company from losing money, but only when you can prove the chargeback is not a legitimate chargeback.

Ah, now I understand, thank you. I suppose a lot of firms would try to dispute them because they don't like refunding money and then the onus would be upon the consumer to prove their claim?

Well its not that they dont like or want to refund their customers, im sure companies would rather a refund then a chargeback as the card brand impose penalties and fees for companies who receive excessive chargebacks and these can be quite high.
