I jumped in to the middle of a "forwards are bad" discussion on another board, and another member sent me to a website that linked to others that explained what folks can do with email addresses they get from forwards.

I realize that people can harvest emails from forwards, but let's face it, people can steal email addresses from almost anywhere, any email. I know someone who had a breakup with another friend, and the second person used the first's email address and signed up for several things.

I have heard of this happening in other occasions as well. Not just harvesting, but also taking from someone(s) in particular to create problems, including fraud.

There are ways to go after such people legally, report them to the FBI for example. I have forgotten what my first friend did, but it stopped the other person.
