i believe some companies (mostly larger direct sellers) have their own fraud department. just a few weeks ago, i received a call from a merchant (company name withheld, it might be against the forum rules to mention any names of companies i've dealt with), and they informed me that my credit card was used to purchase a macbook. good thing, they haven't shipped out the item yet. they gave me advices on how to pursue the person for identity theft and even gave me a phone number for a cop who can help me. once their investigation is over, i plan to bring it to court.
for most people, they just want the funds returned to their accounts and get new credit cards. but it shouldn't stop there, we have to show these people that they can't continue living off on scams. |
